Melissa Sweeney is a yoga teacher based in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria. She is interested in exploring how people relate to each other, to themselves, and to their environments – a question she has been asking since her studies in marine biology and anthropology, and one which she now investigates through the lens of yoga. Melissa teaches yoga classes, workshops and retreats to children and adults in Melbourne and the Macedon Ranges, and practices sound massage by appointment.
ABOUT MY PRACTICE
My yoga practice balances slow, passive, long-held postures (yin) with more rhythmic, muscular flows (yang). My focus is on cultivating present-moment awareness, energy flow and self-inquiry. I use Tibetan singing bowls, chimes and other instruments for relaxation and meditation.
Join me at my weekly yoga classes in Mount Macedon and surrounds where I offer a slow Vinyasa practice, a slower Gentle practice and a still, floor-based Yin practice.
A Yin/Yang class and Kids' Yoga class is also available. Classes are small and capped at 6 people per class and run per school term. Private classes are also available by appointment.
The current timetable can be found here.
Sound massage is an effective and gentle relaxation method where Tibetan Bowls are placed on the clothed body and gently tapped with a felt mallet. The singing bowls produce soft and harmonious sounds, and the subtle vibrations are transmitted through the body producing a massage effect. $80 / hour session
